I had the privilege of serving with Medical Missions Outreach for 10 days in Iquitos, Peru. Iquitos is a unique city because it is located in the Amazon rainforest and is only accessible by boat or plane. Compared to the capital city Lima, Iquitos is remote, less modern, and appeared to be poorer. We set up our health clinic in the middle of town at Bethany Baptist Church. We had an optical team and a medical team. We saw 2,060 people for the week, and 151 people received Jesus as their savior with countless others expressing interest in Church. My job in the clinic all week was working in the pharmacy filling prescriptions that providers had written. Because I was in the pharmacy, I had very little patient interaction. This trip was different for me in that sense, but I was able to focus on relationships with other staff member and the volunteers from the Church that were helping out with the clinic. Through the week I was able to see God work in the hearts of the Church volunteers as well as the people of Iquitos. God was also at work in my heart during the trip. One thing that I was challenged by was the great spiritual need. There was a big physical need, but the spiritual need felt overwhelming.
