Kristen Sanderson, CT Tech
Santa Rita, Honduras
I returned home last weekend from my mission trip to Santa Rita, Honduras with my heart and cup overflowing!
The Lord allowed our team of 55 people to treat over 1700 patients in 4 days! 50 people came to know Christ, including two team members! What a blessing it was to have a small part in such a beautiful week of Kingdom work.
The week was filled with challenges stemming from Customs not releasing our equipment until late Tuesday night but I was so encouraged to see how the team was willing to adapt and overcome in order to still treat patients. I truly think this blessed my heart more than anything else because it showed me just how much each individual on our team cared for the patients we came to treat. It was inspiring to see people step out of their comfort zone and be used in ways they may not normally be used, all for the good of people so much less fortunate.
I actually work with the dental team when I go on these trips and while I can honestly say I never thought I’d enjoy working with peoples teeth, I truly do love it! I was initially placed in dental because the thought was that since I was a Rad Tech, I could do dental X-rays with the new portable dental X-ray machine…NOT! We do not learn dental X-rays in Radiology school but guess what?! I know how to do them now! I’ve learned so much in the dental department and formed lifelong friendships with the people I’ve met along the way and I’m so humbled and grateful that the Lord saw fit to take me out of my box and use me elsewhere. Our dental team treated 188 patients this trip. It’s a different kind of exhaustion but oh! So worth it!
This was my fifth trip with MMO and I’m signed up for two more next year if the Lord allows me to go. This organization has helped me combine my love of travel with my heart to help people medically and also my desire to serve the Lord. I could not be more thankful that He allowed me to find MMO and now also The Upward Twist. It was such a blessing to have this organization come alongside me financially to help support my goal of reaching the mission field. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! May the Lord continue to bless this beautiful organization.
