Hey! I'm Ron Spruill and I'm an RN in the ICU department at a hospital in Nashville. I went to nursing school with plans of helping under-served people when I graduated. This past September I was blessed with the opportunity to go on a medical mission trip to Santiago Dominican Republic with my church. I wouldn't have been able to go if it weren't for the support that I received from The Upward Twist. Because of your support, I was able to serve both Dominican and Haitian families with our medical team.
I went to the DR expecting to be a blessing, but I can honestly say that the trip was more of a blessing to me. While in the DR, I learned many things not only about the culture, but also about myself. First, love speaks in every language. Despite the language barrier, love truly knows every language. Second, happiness is not a matter of belongings. Despite having so little, the people of the DR constantly remained some of the happiest and most grateful people I have ever met.
God works in very mysterious ways and all of the hearts that I came into contact with throughout my week in the DR were living embodiment's of God's never-ending and unconditional love. Overall, we didn't go to the DR to end poverty, but to bring the gift of God's love through our presence there. Impact is incremental and personal, not immediate and global. Thank you for all your help!!
